Sagittarius Forecast for October 2009

By Susan Miller

What a difference a month makes! September could not have been more stressful for you, particularly if you were born in mid-to-late December, but you pulled through and you met a challenge head-on. Now October dawns and brings good news on many fronts. Just when you thought it was unlikely that anything new and exciting would happen in October, the universe comes bearing gifts. This is the magic and wonder of life and the reason you must keep striving, because sooner or later it pays off.

The big news of October is that Saturn will leave earth sign Virgo on October 29, a place it has occupied since September 2007. Taskmaster Saturn will move into Libra, a fellow air sign that will be far friendlier for your fire sign element than its place in Virgo could ever be. Once in Libra, you will absorb more easily the new lessons Saturn will have for you, without so much struggle. Additionally, Saturn will no longer be on a sharp angle of your chart, considered one of the hardest places in a chart to host this demanding planet. Better days are due, dear Sagittarius, and I am so happy to have this news for you.

Specifically, Saturn has been touring your tenth house of career for two years, and ever since, your abilities, good judgment, practicality, resourcefulness, and determination to stay the course have been tested. Depending on the exact day of your birthday, some part of the past two years proved to be quite difficult. For example, if you were born near the beginning of your sign, say, November 22 to 28, you probably felt the heavy tests of Saturn in the first eleven months, from September 2007 to August 2008.

If you were born near December 9 to 17, you felt Saturn's challenges more directly this year, particularly since June, but doubly so in September. You likely had a workout last month.

After Saturn leaves at the end of October, Saturn will return to your tenth house of career for 14 weeks next spring, from April 7 to July 21, but those weeks will go quickly. The Sagittarians who were born December 17 to 21 have not had the full course with Saturn, so he is coming back to direct his attention mainly to those members of the sign. You are more fortunate than the rest, however, because by then you will have had several months of rest and it will be easier to cope.

Best of all, no matter when your birthday happens to fall, after Saturn leaves in early June 2010, he won't be back to your career sector again until 2036.

Saturn always leaves a gift by the door when your tour of duty is over, but never during the testing phase. You may receive your professional reward soon after Saturn is fully gone, say, in March, or it may come later, after the 14-week period is over, say, in August or September 2010. The harder you worked, the more impressive your reward will be. You won't have to scratch your head and wonder, "Could this be my gift from Saturn?" You will know when it comes, for sure.

There is other news this month, so let's get started looking at the top of the month and go through it chronologically now.

At the beginning of the month, a love relationship will reach a culmination, even if you had not planned for one. This full moon will be in Aries, a fellow fire sign that blends beautifully with your Sun sign, hinting that feelings will crest to a delightful stage. Having said that, I should add that if things between you and someone close have been going downhill for some time, this full moon may bring the courage to leave, freeing you to pursue others.

Still, I feel you have a stronger chance of having a happy, even possibly thrilling episode in the days surrounding October 4 (plus or minus four days). This full moon will be well angled to Jupiter, your ruler and giver of gifts and luck. There is a possibility you will travel over the weekend of October 3-4, perhaps to go to a party or to see someone you are dating out of town.

Are you hoping to adopt a baby or are you pregnant and awaiting the moment when it's time to go to the hospital? Keep those bags packed within four days of October 4, the most likely time of the month to give birth or hear news from the adoption agency. Wow, now that's exciting! If you have children, you may be riveted on one of them in the first week and making plans for that child. It's a joyous time, so enjoy it, dear Sagittarius.

Real estate news shines over October 4, due to a concurrent beam of Mars, now in Cancer, to Uranus, in Pisces. This suggests you may rent, buy, or sell a house or other home-related property, or find some sort of deal that is home related. Most of us need money when we do anything involving our homes, whether we renovate, move, redecorate, and so forth, and happily, over this weekend, the money would appear. If you are hoping to refinance your house, this is the time of the month to be talking with the bank. If you have been concerned over the welfare of a parent, good news may come like lightning over this weekend as well.

Also over this full moon period, October 1-7, you may be finishing up a creative project, or finally get the approval you have awaited for so long. If this is how the full moon works out for you, it is likely to be a very adventurous project that opens you up to completely new elements and experiences. Lots of personal growth should result. Mercury is no longer retrograde as it was last month, so it would be fine to present ideas, accept offers, and enter into new associations.

If you were born on December 2, plus or minus four days, you will do best.

Financially, you seem to be spending quite a bit of money lately, due to Mars' tour of your eighth house. It appears you have had to put high balances on your credit cards, or may have been forced to ask the bank or others for a large loan. Other Sagittarians may have refinanced their mortgage to free up funds to pay bills.

Mars almost always forces up expenses when touring the eighth house, as you have. If you have been trying to hold the line, the good news is that Mars will move off this difficult position on October 16 and not come back for two years. Hooray! From this month on, it will be far easier for you to control your finances.

If you are self-employed (or want to be), you may have been busy presenting your business plan to investors - or if you are at the end of a marriage, you may have tried to negotiate the division of property in a divorce. These matters will likely be cleared up by mid-month. If you have been having a dispute with an insurance company, I feel both sides will settle, for talks would not likely extend beyond October 15, the date Mars will leave Cancer.

The eclipses this past summer, July 7 and 21, emphasized your finances and created an environment where things were in flux and about to change. As you reach early October, Mars will continue this trend.

Watch the day prior to the day Mars leaves Cancer, October 14, when it will reach 29 degrees, the same degree as the July 21 eclipse. On October 14, plus or minus two days, you may get important financial news that emphasizes the eighth house of other people's money. For example, you may get venture capital, an inheritance, scholarship, commission, or other financial bonus. Actually not only do you have this sensitive mathematical degree being triggered, you also have Mars and Venus in perfect sync in your financial house on October 14, boding good tidings.

Occasionally when Mars tours the eighth house as you have, we choose to have a medical or dental procedure. Surgery is found in the transformative eighth house, so if you need a wisdom tooth pulled, or require a little help with your knee, you may decide to go in and have the surgeon fix it up. It would be a logical time to do so.

When Mars enters Leo on October 16, it will be a wonderful development for you, dear Sagittarius. Mars will then begin to light your ninth house of international relationships, travel, higher education, publishing, and broadcasting, and all are areas that will virtually shower you with opportunity. This is very exciting because the areas ruled by the ninth house are just up your alley - you love them all, and all will glimmer with fresh new options.

Mars in fire sign Leo is a boon to fire sign Sagittarius! It doesn't get any better than this! Usually Mars spends seven weeks in any one part of the chart, but this year, Mars will spend an astounding eight months in Leo! This is as good as it gets! It may be good to note that Mars will be stronger than he will be in November. This is because Mars is "running down" in energy in anticipation of going retrograde on December 20, a point when he will be at his lowest ebb.

You will want to get as much done as you can in the second two weeks of October, while Mars is so strong. November will be all right too, but not quite as strong. By December you will need a lot of patience as you see one delay right after another.

Not only will Mars be moving at the speed of a turtle in December, Mercury will go retrograde from December 26 to January 16. Mercury rules your solar house of career success, but with Mercury settling down for a nap, this period will show little or no progress. Most of December through mid-January will be a time of waiting and watching, not advisable for taking assertive action. Keep in mind you always feel Mercury's slowdowns a good two weeks before Mercury actually goes retrograde. You will notice how quiet things are - you won't be able to push people to do things, so be patient, and act now while you can!

On top of Mercury going retrograde, Mars will retrograde in Leo from December 20 to March 10. When Mars finally awakens and speeds ahead, March 10 to June 7, he will be speeding at his best pace of all. (After June 7, Mars will move to another sign.) So when you look at all the months that Mars will be helpful to you, the ones I am ranking as best-of-the-best will be from March 10 to June 7. Aim to use that period for your biggest projects!

The areas you should be targeting for the March-to-early-June period include: business interests abroad, international diplomacy and trade, pursuits for higher education in college or graduate school, long-distance travel, and endeavors in broadcasting and publishing, including the Internet, telecommunications, and other digital forms.

There is even more reason to be excited about October. On October 13, Jupiter, your ruler, will go from retrograde to direct, turning on the power and helping you find excellent financial opportunities. Jupiter, the good fortune planet, has been retrograde since June 16, so the fact that he is moving forward is big news - everyone will benefit from having a stronger Jupiter, but especially you! You are a child of Jupiter! (That is, Jupiter is your guardian planet.)

This is all quite curious and interesting because among other things, Jupiter rules distant, mind-enhancing travel and international relationships. As you see, Jupiter is turning direct at the same time you will have Mars begin to light your ninth house of foreign people and places. This underscores the idea that you will be at the airport more than usual in coming months, a prospect that you no doubt will love! If you can't get away from home because you have too many obligations to break free, then foreign people may come to you, in person or on the phone.

You may be speaking in front of others after Jupiter goes direct, publishing articles or books, or appearing on TV. You seem to have built a name for yourself, and the media will want to hear what you have to say. If you are in medicine or law, Jupiter also rules the professions, so again, you will get a boost.

Now let's turn to your private life - romance, fun, and friendship! You can expect your social life to take on a new radiance once the new moon arrives October 18. This new moon will bring lots of new people to your path, but also help you be in contact with plenty of present friends, too. You'll have more reasons to step out, and you'll enjoy more cultural activities, from going to a favorite band's concert, to seeing a blockbuster museum exhibit, to enjoying tickets to a Broadway show. You'll be out and about - for sure!

Venus will move through this house too, from October 14 to November 7, a lovely place for Venus to be, for while there, she will dance the dance of love with Mars. These two planets, Venus and Mars, are forever smitten with one another, and now that they are gliding in air (Venus) and fire (Mars) signs during October's second half, they will help display your charms to best advantage.

One of your most divine days will be Wednesday, October 28, when Venus and Jupiter will create a dazzling evening of beauty and wonder. It's a day to enjoy going out, for sure.

Saturn will enter the eleventh house, the part of your chart-ruling friends and fun, on October 29. When Saturn begins to spin his magic, he may make you more sensitive to humanitarian concerns and environmental needs, and you may decide to roll up your sleeves to help out. Or, you may run for office in a club you belong to now.

If you are filled with obligations and can't do charity work, you may choose to help a friend in need on a very substantial level. You will learn things from friends, and you may even make a friend who is quite a bit older who gives you amazing advice you can use instantly. It would be a friendship you would enjoy. Compared to where Saturn has been since September 2007, this placement will be a breeze for you, and besides, Saturn in Libra is a place you understand. As you see, life is definitely heading in the right direction, dear Sagittarius.

One last word - Halloween will bring a bushel of fun because the moon will move through Aries. Dare to make a costume that is different from any costumes you've ever seen! You can win the prize for creativity on this night for ghosts and goblins. Design a costume that is purely outrageous!

Summary

Two superb planetary shifts will take place this month, and both will have the effect of making your life happier and more carefree.

First, Saturn, the taskmaster planet, will finally leave your tenth house of honors, achievement, and reputation after testing you to learn new skills. Since Saturn has journeyed through this house since September 2009, you've had much scrutiny of your work by higher ups, and at times that may have rattled you.

Saturn visits are rare, and he has not been in this part of your chart for nearly 29 years. Hence, we only get two, or possibly three, visits of Saturn to a part of the chart in our lifetime. The lessons Saturn imparts have to be memorable and strong, for they must last until Saturn has time to cycle back to refresh your lessons in this area. That won't happen until late 2036. (Subsequent visits are always easier, as you will have learned much or even all of what you needed to learn already.) When it comes to your career, now that you are about to graduate from Saturn's boot camp, you are now wiser, stronger, and more able to handle any professional challenge that is thrown your way. If you felt watched and overly supervised, that feeling will drop away - your test is over.

While it is true that Saturn will be back for a brief 14-week visit to your career house from April 7 to July 21, 2010, it will be only those Sagittarius who were born late in the sign, say, from December 14 -21, who will feel the direct rays from Saturn. If that is you, you will have time to rest and to perfect your strategy before Saturn returns.

Although Saturn stays with us approximately two years, we each only feel the direct rays of Saturn for nine months as it passes over the mathematical degrees of our Sun. If you were born late in your sign, you have done a six-month stint with Saturn, the reason Saturn will be back to finish up your nine-month course. No matter when your birthday falls, you have much to cheer about, and you will get rewards soon for all you've learned in your career.

In another part of your chart, Mars, the active planet, is about to move into your house of international relationships and travel for nearly eight months. This emphasis will surely make you smile. With such a strong emphasis on travel, it appears you are about to pack your bags and go, more than once. You may find special business opportunity in the international arena, or you may find unusually strong chances to expand your influence through publishing, broadcasting, or academic study / college markets, areas also due to get extra energy during this trend from October 16, 2009, to June 7, 2010.

You'll want some days to let down your hair, and you'll have that, too - on the full moon October 4, love should be divine, with a relationship due to reach full bloom. If you haven't been dating and you're alone, you may not be alone for long.

At the new moon, October 18 and in the two weeks to follow, you'll be given another, different social influence - a chance to see friends and make new ones, join clubs, and mingle on a much bigger scale than what you have been doing so far this year. If you join a humanitarian project, you will be able to meet like-minded people you enjoy, but more importantly, you will find a way make a difference to the charity and leave your mark.

Dates to note for Sagittarius

One of your favorite days for quick short travel will be over the weekend of October 10-11, but the fun will begin Friday night, October 9.

International relationships, travel, trade, and the import-export of information, goods, or services will become a growing theme in the months ahead.
